What is the Walk to Remember?

The Walk to Remember is an annual event that benefits Alzheimer's Services, a local non-profit to the Capital Area that serves those with Alzheimer's and their caregivers. After going virtual last year, this year's in-person walk will be better than ever with live music, food, drinks, snowballs, a vendor Memory Market, children's village, and of course, a walk route!

Come out to enjoy some fresh Fall air, get some excercise with your kiddos and family in a safe environment, connect with other caregivers, honor your loved ones, walking strong and doing good at the same time!

WHAT: The Annual Walk to Remember 2021 - one of Alzheimer's Services largest awareness and fundraising event of the year and a Baton Rouge community wide event.

WHEN: Saturday, October 9th, from 8AM-12PM

WHERE: The Blue Cross Blue Shield Offices off Bluebonnet Blvd. in Baton Rouge

Why should I walk?

The past year has put a tremendous burden on caregivers and their loved ones affected with Alzheimer's or other dementia. Caregivers saw themselves immediately become 24/7 caregivers and frontline workers at home almost overnight, and the burden hasn't let up yet.

Currently among the top diseases in the US, Alzheimer's is the only one with no treatement, and no cure. Alzheimer's is a difficult diagnosis, not only for the patients but also for their caregivers.

The pandemic has not only put incredible additional amounts of stress on caregivers, but the social isolation and lack of routine has also affected those with the disease. Alzheimer's Services was able to adapt quickly, shifting support groups and webinars virtually, maintaining our helpline even while working remotely, creating drive-by activity kids, and safe at-home visits so we could continue to serve the community during this challenging time.

How can I participate?

You can sign up to participate as an individual, as a member on a team, or start your own team as a Team Captain and invite friends to walk with you!

One of the best ways you can support the walk is by starting a team and asking your friends and family to join your team. Research shows people are more willing to give when asked by a friend or family member, and by becoming a Team Captain, you become the best advocates for us in your community!

Registration is required whether you decide to walk as an individual (adult or child), join an existing team, or start your own as Team Captain!
