We started this journey in June 2008. Big Momo was diagnosed in 1999, at the time she became roommates with her daughter Terry. In a conversation with a customer at work Terry was told about Charlie’s Place. Charlie’s Place is an organization designed to service people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Both ladies were going through the same journey, her with her mom who was mentally impaired, and Terry with Big Momo. There are some many people who traveling the same way of life were traveling. We all experience how this horrible disease takes so much of our loved one’s life and memories, stolen their strength mentally and physically, and taken away the right to age gracefully in life.
I thank God for the Alzheimer’s services at Charlie’s Place. We've received so much knowable information on a disease that affects so many families. Alzheimer’s/dementia will not discriminate. Dementia affects all aspects of life. We’ ve received many moments of support that has provided us hours of opportunities to have a shoulder to lean on. We’ve been given words of encouragement, many acts of compassion, care, and love. I believe that I speak for so many other caregivers and their loved ones, when I say that it is a blessing to be apart of a program that allows you to receive much needed support. We all give so much in our daily life.
The Alzheimer’s services at Charlie’s Place have been there for Big Momo and her caregivers. It has been a light in a dark place of our lives. I would describe Alzheimer's Services at Charlie's Place as a support rope there to hang on to so we can make it through. My mom was able to keep smiling, moving, but most of all being around individuals who truly care. Friends she can spend time with who don’t mind listening to the same stories over and over again, because like herself, they all are dealing with the same disease.
Unfortunately Alzheimer/dementia is increasing daily. The population is constantly aging, and even with it being researched there is no cure in sight. In as many words as I can express I give thanks to God for each and everyone and anyway you support this organization, either financial or with your time. I thank you and I need you. God bless you from the bottom of my heart.
